BENTALL KENNEDY ANNOUNCES E-WASTE CHALLENGE: A TRIBUTE TO EARTH WEEK
Vancouver, BC (April 18, 2016) – Bentall Kennedy has challenged its proudly managed shopping centres and the communities that these retail centres serve to take action on Saturday, April 23rd, 2016 to divert electronic waste from reaching landfill sites in Ontario, British Columbia, Alberta & Saskatchewan. The second annual initiative unites participating shopping centres across the country to collaborate and take part in a unique sustainable initiative.
Capilano Mall has partnered with the Electronic Recycling Association (ERA) and will host their one-day only “Drive -Up & Drop- Off” E-Waste Event in the parking lot next to Capilano Mall, located behind Save-On-Foods. For every item that customers drop off for this national challenge, they will receive an extra ballot for Capilano Mall’s grand prize of winning FREE BC Hydro for one year (up to $2,500). Confidential information should be removed from equipment before drop-off at the collection site, and organizers are not responsible for any data left on e-waste devices. Visit CapilanoMall.com for a complete list of acceptable items. All collected items will be responsibly recycled.
“Twenty-one shopping centres across Canada will participate in the four hour challenge” indicated Domenic Imbesi, Regional Director, Marketing Retail Services East. “On April 23rd from 11am to 3pm we are determined to make a difference within the communities that our shopping centres serve. Raising awareness of the impact of diverting e-waste from our landfills is timely as we celebrate Earth Week!”
“Electronic waste contains precious metals, glass, plastics and other valuable materials, and reusing them reduces the need to mine or fabricate raw materials. Rather than just disposing of them, we can reuse and recover this valuable material.” suggested Bonney Rempel, Regional Director, Marketing Retail Services West.
